What is a Nurse Practitioner? What can we do?

Marissa is board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and was granted independent autonomous practice in Florida.

Marissa also holds licenses to practice autonomously in Kentucky, Washington DC, Virgina and New Mexico.

Nurse Practitioners provide a full range of primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services, including:

  • Act as a patient’s PCP (primary care provider) and manage their patients' overall care.

  • Educate patients on disease prevention, health, wellness, and lifestyle choices.

  • Ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays.

  • Diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, infections, and injuries.

  • Prescribing medications and other treatments.

  • Ordering patient services, medical equipment and referring to specialists if needed.

  • Counseling.

  • In the state of Florida, we CANNOT certify for medical use of marijuana.

*In 2020 Florida passed a house bill allowing Nurse Practitioners that met certain criteria autonomous practice. This means to practice to the highest extent of our scope of practice without a collaboration agreement or physician supervision.

Having met all of the required criteria, Marissa was granted independent/autonomous practice in February 2021.
